About Beanstalk Montessori

Hi. My name is Zahra. Most people call me Zee.

I started the Beanstalk program three years ago at a friend’s Montessori school…just to see if people would be interested in a mommy and me class for their 2 to 4 year olds (dads are my regular clients now!). I received great feedback from my clients. First of all, even though there were many “gym” type play areas, there was no mommy and me programs focused on the cognitive development of the child. A place where children could be taught how to share, wait their turn, be polite to others and have respect for their environment by taking a part in keeping in clean. (Our “Jobs” time is a favorite).

At 2 years of age children are at a great stage in their lives. Mostly they want to be independent and we as parents don’t or can't necessarily give them that time at home. Beanstalk will give you and your child an hour and a half of uninterrupted one-on one time, so you can see what they can do. I will be there to show you how to use the materials, how to step in or step out when need be. Remember: this is their time to learn, not the time for you to do it for them. You probably do enough of that at home!

I hope that you will find Beanstalk a great learning environment, both for your children and for yourselves. Beanstalk is a Montessori based program so it will give you an idea if your child is a good fit for Montessori. I have to say though that we are not very “strict” Montessori. I am AMS (American Montessori Society) trained, but I truly do believe you have to “follow the child”!

So even if your child doesn’t end up in a Montessori pre-school, his time at Beanstalk will be well spent, getting ready for any type of pre-school program.

I am also here if you need to talk about anything that you want, not just about your kids but also what we go through as moms these days trying to fit it all in. We talk (in the first 10 minutes of class) about things we’ve tried that have helped and things we’ve tried that haven’t! But mostly its about them and taking the time to learn to enjoy this very special time in their lives---cause you know what? It goes by like a flash.

Zahra Kazem, founder of the Beanstalk Montessori, is a certified AMS (American Montessori Society) teacher with 11 years of teaching experience. She graduated in 1988 from Boston University with dual major in “Broadcasting & Film” and “English Literature”. She started her career in Radio (WTOP) but soon realized that teaching children is her real passion.
